How to Manually Grade a Student Quiz in Brightspace

Updated on

Brightspace is a powerful, user-friendly learning management system (LMS) designed to enhance educational experiences for students, educators, and institutions. Developed by D2L, it offers robust tools for creating and managing courses, engaging learners, and tracking progress. With features like multimedia content integration, mobile accessibility, and advanced analytics, Brightspace supports personalized learning and fosters collaboration in both traditional and online education environments.

Note: To have a quiz completely manually graded, you need to make sure that the questions you create are written responses only. This allows you to go in and input a grade after the student has submitted their attempt. Every other question type makes you put in an answer before you publish the quiz that is auto-graded.

1. From your course homepage, select COURSE MENU and then QUIZZES.

2. From the quizzes page, select the drop-down arrow next to the quiz you would like to grade.

3. Select GRADE.

4. This will take you to a page where you will be able to see the students who have attempted the quiz and the number of attempts, they have made. Select the attempt number under the student you would like to grade.

5. This will show you the questions of the quiz and what the student answered.

6. With written response questions the system automatically marks them as a zero until you go in and manually grade them.

7. Looking at the question you would like to grade, the SCORE box allows you to input the number of points you need to enter for each question.

8. Each question also allows you to give feedback if you would like to. Select the arrow to the right of EXPAND QUESTION (number) FEEDBACK.

9. Once you are done manually grading the quiz and are ready to share the results with the student, select PUBLISH at the bottom right of the screen.
