Update: New Quiz Creation Experience

Welcome to the new create and edit experience for quizzing (coming out in Summer'23).

Creating a New Quiz

Step 1: Select "Quizzes" from the "Course Menu" dropdown menu on the course navigation bar.

Step 2: Select "New Quiz" from "Manage Quizzes" in the navigation bar.

General Quiz Information

Step 3: "Name" the quiz.

Step 4: To input "Grade Out Of" points, (1) select "Edit or Link to Existing" or "Add to Gradebook" from the dropdown menu. Then, (2) add a number greater than 0 in the "grade out of" textfield.

Step 5: Select the date-picker to pick a "Due Date" from the calendar, or enter manually.

Step 6: Enter quiz "Description" in the textbox.

Adding Quiz Questions

Step 7: From the "Create New" dropdown menu, select "New Question" for question types.

Step 8: Select the question type of your choice from the list of eleven different question types.

Step 9: From the "Add Existing" dropdown menu, select  "Browse Question Library" to import existing questions from the library.

Step 10: Select "preview" to view and test your quiz.

Setting Availability Dates & Conditions

Step 11: To set "Availability Dates & Conditions", select the right-facing arrow to expand the section.

Step 12: Select the date pickers to input "Start Date" and "End Date" for the quiz, or enter manually.

Step 13: Select "Add Release Condition" to create new or add existing release conditions.

Step 14: Select "Manage Special Access" to allow students special access to see the quiz.

Step 15: To password protect the quiz, input passcode in the "Password" textbox.

Setting Timing & Display

Step 14: To set "Timing & Display", select the right-facing arrow to expand the section.

Step 15: To specify and manage the time limit, select "Manage Timing".

Step 16: To specify paging of the questions, select the downward arrow, then choose paging option from the dropdown menu.

Step 17: Select the checkbox, to "Shuffle Quiz" questions and sections within the quiz

Step 18:  Select checkbox under "Display" to allow hints or to disable communication alerts while a quiz attempt is in progress.

Step 19: Select "Manage Header and Footer" to insert header and footer at the top and bottom of the quiz, respectfully.

Attempts & Completion

Step 20: To set number of attempts, select the right-facing arrow next to "Attempts & Completion" to expand the section.

Step 21: Select "Manage Attempts".

Step 22: Select the number of  "Attempts Allowed" and "Overall Grade Calculation" from the dropdown menus, then select "OK"

Step 23: Input your email ID in the "Notification Email" textbox to receive notifications when a quiz is attempted.

Evaluation & Feedback

Step 24: Select the right-facing arrow next to "Evaluation & Feedback" to expand the section.

Step 25: Select the checkboxes to reveal grades to students and/or publish results to the gradebook upon completion of an attempt.  

Step 26: Select the downward-facing arrow, then select how you would like questions and answers displayed to your students upon quiz completion.

Step 27: Select "Customize Quiz Results Displays" to edit the view displayed to learners.

Step 28: Select "Edit View" to update the primary view settings for the quiz.

Step 29: Select the "Message" textbox to input the message your students will see upon attempt completion.

Step 30: Select "Statistics" checkboxes to display class average and/or grade distribution.

Step 31: Select "Update" to save your settings.

Repeat steps 25 and 26 for "Grade" checkbox and "Questions"  dropdown menu.

Step 32: Select "Additional View", then select the date and time picker to fix the "Display Date" for when the view comes into effect.

Step 33: Select the checkbox to enter time limit for the additional display.

Follow steps 29 and 30 for the "Message", "Grade", "Questions" and "Statistics" settings, then select "Create" to save.

Step 34: Select "OK" to save all Evaluation & Feedback Settings.

Final Steps

Step 35: Hit the toggle button to switch between "hidden" and "visible".

Step 36: Select "Save and Close" or "Save" to keep, or "Cancel" to discard the quiz.
