Firefox Reader View

Reader View in Firefox removes non-text elements in a web page to declutter web pages and make them easier to read. Buttons, advertisements, background images and videos are all removed from a web page to leave only text. This is great for accessibility as it can help with ADHD and various cognitive disabilities.

In order to use this tool, you need the Firefox web browser. To download Firefox, go to the Mozilla Firefox download page and click the "Download Firefox" button

Enabling Reader View

If a page is available in Reader View, the Reader View icon will appear in the address bar (icon seen below).

Click on the Reader View icon. The icon will change to blue, indicating the feature is currently active (icon seen below).

Additionally, you can access the reader view from the menu bar. Choose "View" then "Enter Reader View". Alternatively, you can press the key F9 to toggle Reader View. 

Using Reader View

You can perform several functions while in Reader View. You will see a set of icons perform different functions.

  • The "X" icon exits Reader View
  • The "Aa" icon lets you adjust the layout (text font and size, content width, line height) and theme (light, sepia, dark) in Reader View.
  • The headphone icon has Firefox read the text out loud.
