Employee Accommodations

Updated on

What is a reasonable accommodation?

Consistent with this policy of non-discrimination, Southern New Hampshire University will provide reasonable accommodations to a qualified individual with a disability to assist them in completing the essential functions of their job, as defined by the ADA, provided that such accommodation does not constitute an undue hardship to the University.

SNHU is committed to engaging in a cooperative dialogue with an individual who has requested, or whom the University has noticed may require, a reasonable workplace accommodation. Full details of our accommodation process, can be found in our Employee Handbook. In order to facilitate this cooperative dialogue, individuals are encouraged to complete the Employee Request for Accommodation questionnaire at the link below. Where an accommodation is related to an individual’s physical or mental condition, verification by a health professional or a disability service provider regarding an individual’s request may be required.

If you need assistance or have questions related to ADA Accommodation Request Form, please create a case within Workday Help, under the case type “Benefits – Workplace Safety and Accommodations”.  Employees who require assistance completing the Request for Accommodation form, may reach out to their designated Human Resources Business Partner.

What is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?

The ADA is a federal civil rights law that was passed in 1990 and went into effect beginning in 1992. Its purpose is to protect people with disabilities from discrimination in employment, in the programs and activities offered by state and local governments, and in accessing the goods and services offered in places like stores, hotels, restaurants, football stadiums, doctors’ offices, beauty parlors, and so on. Title I of the ADA prohibits discrimination in employment and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
